And why not? Who doesn’t want a flat stomach? Even though many feel getting 6 pack abs might be beyond what they are able to achieve (it’s not), a flat stomach looks good and you look healthy. And you likely are.
Abdominal Exercises for a Flat Stomach
OK, stomach exercises by themselves are not going to get you the look you desire unless your belly fat is low to begin with.
Let me explain. Take your shirt off and stand in front of a mirror. Now with your forefinger and thumb, pinch the fat around your abs. Now exhale and pull in your stomach. Now pinch the fat again.
What you will notice is you probably look better with your stomach muscles tightening up, but the fat has not changed. If you do abdominal exercises, you can tighten the ab muscles. However, unless nutrition and aerobic exercise is also included, the fat will remain.
So your goal is going to be to tighten those muscles while also losing the fat.
That’s not as hard as it may sound but you are not going to put a belt around your stomach and get a flat belly, let alone 6 pack abs. It takes effort on your part. If you are willing to put forth the effort, you can achieve the look you want. If not, you can’t.
When doing abdominal exercises, focus on the intensity of your workouts and focus on working the body as a whole in order to get the best metabolic response to lose that stubborn stomach fat.
When it comes to training the abs, if you want real results, you can forget about the crunches and situps for the most part. And I hate them anyway so bye bye. They are probably alright for someone that is really out of condition, but most people that already have some training under their belt need a much better stimulus for their abs than crunches.
The reality is crunches are one of the stomach exercises that actually provide the least amount of resistance and, since resistance is what develops and tones the muscles, makes sense to dump them.
The abdominal exercise I highly recommend is hanging leg raises. But you have to do them right and hardly anyone does. The key to doing these and actually working the begeamers out of your abs is to curl your pelvis up as you raise your legs.
